i wanted to share a little bit of inspiration with you from collections just gone. these pretty little pictures hang on my wall and fill up in my mind when i'm designing new pieces. so many hours of research and drawing go into designing a collection i thought it would be such a waste to not share it.

On another note, I've been meaning to show you photos of these Maurie & Eve wedges forever. They were sent to me by Free People and they are absolutely humungous, probably the tallest shoes I own. I find myself wearing them all the time, though, despite the fact that I crashed my car because I couldn't feel the brake when I was wearing them. (Nobody told me I wasn't supposed to wear heels while driving, GEEZ!)

And the other thing I'll be showing you more of is the unique Wish jacket they sent me, plus a giveaway because I know you all love a bit of free goodies. Stay choooooned. Or have a life, I don't mind if you do that either.

Day one

 

There’s a thread that flows through the people of New York City, a commonality that serves as the glue to its culture. I can’t put my finger on what it is, but it’s like a shade of colour that tints everything in its reach. It’s this commonality that fuels New Yorkers’ renowned pride in their city, and I believe it’s also what makes them so loud. And by loud, I mean that New Yorkers are absolutely comfortable with talking to a passer-by on the street. The many unsolicited chats with strangers are fast becoming my favourite aspect of the city.

What do you do when you can see Tommy Ton in the corner of your eye trying to get a candid photograph of you?

I never thought I’d have to ask myself that. And on a day I was wearing a $30 ASOS dress, no less. (It was paired with $30 Sportsgirl heels, $2 Urban Outfitters socks, a $4 JC Penney jumper and a $20 H&M blazer. I gotta do what I gotta do to get by.)

DIY glitter oxfords

'Late to the party' is a phrase that adequately describes much of my life. I didn't start school until I was 15; I got my provisional driver's licence at 19; and I only just bought my first car last week.

In this context, 'late to the party' refers to the fact that I'm most certainly - albeit unabashedly - the last on board with glitter-encrusted shoes. Not that I ever wasn't a fan, but it never occurred to me that I could simply make my own pair rather than lusting at Miu Miu's $500 offerings on net-a-porter.com.

Rather than clog the interwebz with my own instructions, I'll link you to the ones that were most useful to me. I just used cheap craft glue and a spatula since I didn't have fabric glue or a paint brush and it seemed to turn out just fine. 

As I write this, my fingers are dripping with a sparkly soup of glitz and glue. I've always been a mess when it comes to crafts, ever since that time mum said I could do finger painting and I took that to mean I could finger paint the walls, too. (I was three; cut me some slack.) Given my poor track record with crafts, I think if you think mine is half-decent, I'm sure you could do a much better job. It's a high reward-to-effort ratio - my favourite kind of craft!

The claws of the frosty winter, the colour of the Alley Cat, the warmth of my best friends' limbs all knotted together on the couch on a Friday night: they're home to my heart. Even Denver International Airport bears a sense of comfort for me as the final pitstop before I'm back in Fort Collins.

It's good to be home. In but a few days I'll be covering New York Fashion Week for Pocketto magazine and Catchlight Media and I can't wait to share the experience with you!
